New South Wales largest Outback Race meet entirely organised and run by volunteers.

The Community Cup

The Louth Races, held annually in the small town of Louth in New South Wales, Australia, is a unique event in the rural racing calendar. Nestled along the Darling River, the Louth racecourse is renowned for its relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere, attracting both locals and visitors from across the country.

Having lived in an outback town for 4 years and enjoying a handful of these race days I understand what these events mean to the attendees and the towns that host them.

What really sets these events apart from their city counterparts is that they are, with the exception of jockeys and race stewards, community organised and run. A small army spending months, preparing the tracks, rallying sponsors, arranging catering, navigating various government building, racing and drinking regulations so that the event can happen. Some for a love of racing, many for a love of the town and their community. It was this community aspect I wanted to focus on.

A huge thank you to the race committee for hosting me, being so accommodating and introducing me to some key characters.
